King size electric blankets are
warming blankets that are meant for king sized beds. These beds are 6’4” by 6’8” in America, but may have different
sizes in different parts of the world.
These are the second largest size of beds – the largest are the
super king sized beds (sometimes known as the California king, or Cal king, for short). So, quite understandably,
the electric blankets made for these king beds are also quite large.
Electric blankets actually have warming wire grids inside them.
They have a switch that is to be put on in order to allow the circuit to be made.
When the current is switched on, the
wire grid becomes heated up and the blanket starts getting warmer. There are specific arrangements in the king size
electric blankets to ensure that they do not get any hotter than they should.
In some earlier electric blankets (also referred to as heated
blankets), there were thermostats to decide a particular temperature. The users would set the temperature
they wanted and the electric blankets would stay at that temperature. However, now the technology has
improved vastly.
The king and California king
electric blankets now use rheostats instead of thermostats. Rheostats can understand temperature themselves and can
stay at an optimal level. There is no need of making any setting, as they will analyze the temperature of the
blanket and, in most cases, the temperature of the person sleeping in them and maintain the temperature of the
blanket in accordance with that.
King Electric Blankets
Being king size electric blankets, it can be assumed that these
blankets must be quite heavy. This impression is increased because of the presence of the wire grid present in
them. It is true that king size electric blankets were indeed quite heavy in the past, making them
quite impracticable to use too. However, in recent times, technologies have improved immensely.
The wire mesh used now is made of much thinner materials than in
the early days of these blankets. This enables the people sleeping inside them to sleep comfortably without feeling
that they are being pushed with some enormous electric blanket weight on their bodies.
Nowadays, you will find most king and Cal king electric blankets
pegged with a dual control feature. These blankets are pricier but they are much better for use. The dual control
feature allows two people sleeping under different sides of the electric blanket to adjust the temperature
according to their own preferences. Hence, the same blanket has two different temperatures at its two different
ends! This feature has immensely increased the popularity of these blankets.
For all outward appearances, the king size electric blankets are
very much similar to normal blankets. They have the same kind of material used externally and have weaves just as
ordinary blankets do. What’s more is that they can be washed and dried in machines like ordinary blankets. The wire
mesh inside them does not get affected by external washing and drying.
Prices are steeper than ordinary blankets though, and that’s
understandable. The prices for synthetic and semi-synthetic king electric blanket
options begin from $60 and go upwards of that. They come with warranties of about a year, which gives people
some peace of mind when they are buying these relatively unconventional products. We have highlighted some great
king electric blanket options above, in association with Amazon.
